In the summer, we fly kites. We make them ourselves.








30 minutes outside of Hue City in a rural community, Friends of Hue Foundation is working with the local government to re-build a much-needed elementary school/community shelter. The dark line on the walls shows how high the water gets when it floods there.

I’ve recently ended my English classes, so I can focus more on my summer fellowship program. This was the end of the year party for my lop Thieu Nhi (my youngest class.) I’m going to really miss teaching this chaotic bunch.





My shelter director, Chi Phuong, invited us over to her house for her daughter’s birthday dinner. She was born in the year of the goat (if you were wondering.)


One morning, I woke up at 4:45a.m. to help prepare an all-American breakfast for the kids with all the other volunteers. Veggie omelets, bacon, apples, milk, cereal, yogurt, toast, butter, and jam- with a side of The Beatles’ Rubber Soul Album. Breakfast with the Beatles is always wonderful.







Coming up: Anh-Thu Nguyen and Dave Eng visit Hue. We ate a lot.
